Kimchi Market Ambassadors Wanted!

Are you passionate about farmers’ markets, fresh, local produce, AND the Spicy Hermit kimchi? Are you a morning owl and do you love interacting with people and sharing your love of kimchi and good food? If so, we want YOU!

We are seeking a few enthusiastic and reliable individuals to represent The Spicy Hermit at local farmers' markets (and possibly at other fun events). You'll be responsible for selling our delicious, handcrafted kimchi, interacting with customers, and engaging with the vibrant community of farmers’ markets. You will not be required to be there every Saturday, but must be available for at least 2 Saturdays per month during main market months from April to Nov (at least once a month during winter season from Dec-March). Market hours vary from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm or 11:30 am to 4:30 pm, depending on the market. 

This would be great for folks who would like to make extra bucks but also need flexibility, such as students, retirees, remote workers, part timers, etc. 

Responsibilities:

  •    Setting up and dismantling the market stall: This includes transporting, setting up, and organizing all necessary equipment (tables, signage, coolers, etc.) as well as transporting market items back to kitchen and storage (usually 10 mins or less).

  •    Sales and Customer Service: Engaging with customers, providing information about our kimchi (ingredients, fermentation process, flavors, etc.), taking orders, processing payments via Square, and offering samples.

  •    Inventory Management: Monitoring kimchi stock levels, restocking as needed, and reporting on sales trends.

  •    Maintaining a Clean and Organized Workspace: Ensuring the market stall is clean, attractive, and organized at all times.

  •    Cash Handling and Record Keeping: Accurately handling cash and other forms of payment, and maintaining sales records.

  •    Representing The Spicy Hermit  Maintaining a friendly, professional, and enthusiastic demeanor as well as a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment. 

  •    Option to assist with kimchi production during harvest season (usually spring and fall)

Qualifications:

  •    Passionate about Kimchi: A genuine love for kimchi is preferred but not required. Enthusiasm about sustainable agriculture and the role that kimchi plays in it and willing to share that knowledge with others. 

  •    Excellent Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Ability to interact with customers in a friendly, approachable, and informative manner.

  •    Reliable and Responsible: Must be punctual, dependable, and able to work independently.

  •    Sales Experience Not Required: Previous experience in sales or customer service is helpful but not required.

  •    Ability to Lift up to 50 lbs: You'll need to be able to lift and carry boxes of kimchi and other supplies (such as a tent).

  •    Must have a driver's license and reliable transportation (must be able to carry market stall supplies and kimchi)

Compensation:

  •  $15/hr to start or option for a farmers’ market stipend

  • Free Kimchi!

Farmers Market Schedule:

Saturdays. Most markets are open from 8 am - 12 pm but we are required to be at our assigned spot by 7:30 am. With half-hour for loading/unloading and transport, you will be working for a total of 6 hours. 

You will not be required to be there every Saturday, but must be available for at least 2 Saturdays per month during main market months from April to Nov (at least once a month during winter season from Dec-March). Market hours vary from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm or 11:30 am to 4:30 pm, depending on the market and date.

Please specify if you would like to work a morning (available all Saturdays of the month) or afternoon market (available only twice a month).
